Painted Lake
Your Lake, Down to the Deep Hole
You know where the bottom drops away off the point, and which bay the loons come back to. The print hangs that lake on your wall, with your dock pinned under the name your family uses.

Their Depth First
The Number You Already Quote
Ask anyone on a lake how deep it gets and they'll answer in feet without stopping to think. That number prints first and largest, by the deep hole, as the state publishes it. Beside it, a size down, sits the deepest line the state's surveyors drew. On most lakes it reads a few feet shallower, because the state's maximum is one sounding at the very bottom and the contour runs just above it.
Most lakes in the country have never had an open depth survey. For those, the print draws the shoreline, sets the published figures beside it, and says so on the sheet in one plain line: No open depth survey exists for this lake.
